Port of the Islands Hotel

Not to be confused with the Port of the Islands Adventure Resort which is still in operation, the Port of the Islands Hotel located to the North of Tamiami Trail was part of one of the most infamous scams in Florida.

Visit the post from 2018 on abandondedfl.com to read about the history of the hotel and the Golden Gate Estates development just east of Naples, Florida. A 2013 article from the Naples Daily News includes interviews from staff in the closing days of the hotel.

The closing is, however, a huge relief to the workers at and residents of the tidy, well-landscaped look-alike resort down the street, the Port of the Islands Everglades Adventure Resort. It was built by the same builder, but has different ownership.

White, who works at the Adventure Resort’s front desk, used to shoo away what she called the “drunks and pill-heads” who lived long-term at the Hotel and occasionally wandered over to the Adventure Resort to use its pristine pool.
